We are now entering three months of social distancing. How are you doing with your health and fitness? Did you start strong when this first hit, but now you’re losing motivation? Did you never really start adjusting with a new workout routine and find yourself feeling stuck? I’d like to offer some advice on how to start moving forward again with your fitness goals! It’s looking like this “getting back to normal at the gym” thing is going to take time, so let’s not wait any longer!
When you’re feeling stuck, a great first step is to take time and write down your why. Ask yourself: During this pandemic when gyms are closed, why is it important for me to make my health and fitness a priority even when it is far from ideal? Don’t rush this. Take your time. Really think about the REAL reason. Write it down. If your why is strong, then you will find a way to get it done.
Next, set a reasonable goal with a deadline! (4-week goals are a good idea to start with)
Here are some goal ideas:
-Set a number of workouts per week
-Set a number of additional outdoor activities you’d like to get in each week (hikes, walks, bike rides)
-Add a daily water goal to assure you are staying hydrated
-Aim to hit your recommended daily protein
-Set healthy boundaries around extra sweets and/or alcohol
Do not go overboard here. Think doable goals. Focus on a couple. You can always add or change next month as you continue.
Once you have your goals written down with a deadline, TELL SOMEONE! Choose a friend/family member who is supportive and will hold you accountable. If you feel comfortable, it’s even helpful to share with them your Why! Tell them your goal and check in with them weekly to let them know your progress! When we have a friend holding us accountable and cheering us on, we are more likely to stick to our goals!
You can do this!!
