My husband, Sam, and I used to go to a church where our pastor used the phrase “Majoring in Minors” often. He was a fantastic leader, and we learned a lot from him. I find myself often using this phrase as well when I am discussing nutrition with our members.
When I sit down with our members to discuss nutrition and reaching their goals, I often get asked questions like, “I heard carrots are bad.” Or “I know white rice is bad for me.” And this is where I say, “Let’s not major in the minors!” When we are discussing weight loss, we must keep the big picture in mind and not get hung up on all the little details that really aren’t the foods keeping us from crushing our goals. Let’s talk fast food, sweets, late night snacking, weekend binging, alcohol, etc.! 😉
Often, I think we may focus on the little details that really aren’t important to us reaching our goals, because we may want to avoid addressing what we really need to change. It is hard to change habits! But instead of getting hung up on the minors, let’s be honest with ourselves and let’s address the large habits one at a time that will really make a difference and actually propel us to our goals!
Much love!
Nikki
